Kitui: 4 dead after bus collides with a matatu

At least 4 passengers were confirmed dead and several injured after a Sunday, April,23  accident involving a  63-seater Mandera bound bus and a 14-seater Matatu at Kanyonyoo Junction along the Thika-Garissa highway.

According to Assistant Chief of Kanyonyoo sub-location Jacob Mueti, the Mandera bound bus was heading to Garissa while the 14-seater matatu was heading to Thika.

According to one of the witnesses, the two vehicles reportedly collided after the 14-seater matatu was stopped by the traffic police officers.

“A fatal accident occurred a few minutes ago near Kanyonyoo. The Matatu had been stopped by police officers. It’s so unfortunate that a bus hit it when it had stopped.” one of the eyewitnesses told Mauvoo News.

The Garissa bus was overspeeding before the accident and the front part of the bus was completely damaged and the windows of the two vehicles broken.

Those who were injured were rescued and taken to Matuu Level Four Hospital for treatment. The police officers from Kanyonyoo police station came to aid ease the traffic jam caused by the accident.

The Kanyonyoo stretch has been a blackspot and a lot of people have lost lives or been injured on the road.
